Basketball Manitoba, in partnership with Anti-Racism in Sport, will host an in-person Anti-Racism Training session on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm online.

The interactive 3.5-hour session is designed for coaches and other sport stakeholders who want to strengthen their understanding of racism in sport and develop practical strategies for responding to racist incidents and creating safer, more inclusive environments.

Racism can affect sport at the individual, community and systemic levels, and coaches can play an important role in shaping the culture and environment experienced by athletes.

Coach the Game. Change the Culture.

Coaches influence more than what happens on the scoreboard. They also help shape the culture of their teams and the experiences of the athletes, families and communities around them.

The session will explore how racism can appear in locker rooms, on sidelines, in the stands, online and throughout sport systems. Participants will build their confidence in recognizing racism, responding appropriately and taking practical steps toward more inclusive sport environments.

What Participants Will Gain

  • Build anti-racism literacy and understand key concepts.
  • Explore racism in Canadian sport and its impact on athletes and communities.
  • Recognize racism in action, from individual behaviours to systemic barriers.
  • Learn practical strategies for responding to racist incidents on and off the field.
  • Better understand systemic racism and the role coaches and sport leaders can play in addressing it.
  • Identify ways to create safer and more inclusive team and sport environments.

The session is intended to help move participants from awareness to action, recognizing that coaches do not simply teach the game—they also influence the culture surrounding it.
