The BBC Bayreuth professional basketball team from Germany has announced the signing of Winnipeg’s Simon Hildebrandt for the upcoming season.

The 23-year-old joins the German club after completing his collegiate career at Washington State University and brings a combination of size, shooting ability, and experience to Bayreuth’s frontcourt.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Hildebrandt stands 6’9” tall. He has built a reputation as a versatile forward capable of stretching the floor, highlighted by a 37 percent three-point shooting percentage during his most recent season.

Prior to competing in the NCAA, Hildebrandt established himself as one of Canada’s top university players with the Manitoba Bisons. His combination of perimeter shooting, basketball IQ, and competitive mindset made him one of the most top Canadian university players of his generation.

“It has been my dream since childhood to play in Germany. I can’t wait to get started,” said Hildebrandt.

Following his recent wedding in Canada, Hildebrandt and his wife will make the move to Bayreuth as he begins the next chapter of his basketball career.

BBC Bayreuth officials cited Hildebrandt’s outside shooting, versatility, and winning mentality as key factors in the club’s decision to bring him to Germany.

The signing marks an exciting opportunity for the Manitoba-born forward to continue his career professionally while also reconnecting with his German roots.
