The Southern Sparks Basketball Club has announced the launch of a new girls basketball development program in Winkler, Manitoba this spring.
The new Southern Sparks Girls Basketball Skill Development Program will offer a small-group training environment for girls in Grades 7 to 11, with a focus on building confident, complete players through a 3-on-3 development model. The program is designed to combine skill instruction with live gameplay, giving athletes more touches on the ball, more decision-making opportunities, and more overall game experience within each session.
Based at Northlands Parkway Collegiate, the program will begin the week of March 15 and run until the end of May. Sessions will be held twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with some schedule adjustments possible based on gym availability. The cost is $25 per participant, and club jerseys will be provided for use during sessions. Registration is limited to 18 players.
Southern Sparks says the program is intended to support athlete growth in a format that encourages more active involvement, player reads, spacing, movement, and on-court confidence. The club will be led by local coaches and will provide a fully insured basketball environment for participants.
In addition to local training, Southern Sparks is also interested in connecting with other clubs and community teams from around Manitoba that may be open to occasional 3-on-3 matchups or shared development evenings. This could include opportunities for teams to alternate travel nights between communities as a way to create more playing and development opportunities for girls in smaller centres.
The club is also planning to host a small 3-on-3 tournament in Winkler in April or early May. Teams interested in learning more about that opportunity, or in exploring possible development events and matchups, are encouraged to get in touch.
