The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) basketball season will conclude on Sunday, February 15, with championship finals in both women’s and men’s competition, featuring the league’s top programs in a split-site doubleheader hosted by Providence University College in Niverville and Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg.
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP – SEASON REVIEW AND FINALS PREVIEW
The MCAC Women’s Basketball Final will see the Providence University College Pilots host the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers at Providence University College in Niverville.
Providence enters the final as the conference’s regular-season leader after completing an undefeated 8–0 MCAC campaign. The Pilots established themselves through physical play, rebounding control, and disciplined execution, consistently dictating games at both ends of the floor. Their ability to limit second-chance opportunities and convert efficiently in half-court situations set the tone throughout the season.
The Pilots’ roster features multiple contributors who shaped their conference run. Faith LaRocque was a central figure on both ends of the court, ranking among the league leaders in scoring, rebounding, steals, and shooting efficiency. Fiona Garcia and Mikaela Ramsay provided steady perimeter play and ball movement, while Lily Anderson and Sydney Last added depth, versatility, and defensive balance within Providence’s rotation.
Canadian Mennonite University arrives with offensive firepower and depth, having led the conference in total scoring. The Blazers were paced by Alyssa Doneza, the MCAC’s leading scorer and assist leader, while Sara Bergen anchored the interior as one of the conference’s top rebounders and shot blockers. CMU’s rotation also featured strong contributions from Betty Girmay and Chanelle Lafreniere on the perimeter, with Keera Howden and Abby Morydz providing size, rebounding, and physicality in the frontcourt. The Blazers’ ability to stretch the floor and push tempo presents a contrasting challenge to Providence’s physical, rebounding-focused approach.

Offensively, the Blazers were led by Mekhi Lisan, with perimeter support from Marco Guarino and Derian Castaneda.
