2026 Manitoba Basketball Club Championships Back for Spring; Registration Opens Mar 15

REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 15: Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the Manitoba Club Basketball Championships are coming back this spring.  Due to the fast-growing club basketball scene, the 2026 Manitoba Basketball Club Championships will now expand to 3 weekends: May 21-24, May 28-31, and June 4-7.  Basketball Manitoba will offer basketball teams from around Manitoba and beyond the opportunity to participate in this spring basketball championship.  Registration will be open on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 12 noon.

Due to this growth, the traditional date for the Manitoba Provincial Team Tryouts will take place in Winnipeg at the Sport Manitoba Courts on May 10-12, 2026.  Details will be announced in the coming weeks.  

CHANGES FOR 2026:

• No Cap on Team Entries by Division
• There will be no cap on the number of teams permitted to enter in any age or gender division. All age-eligible teams that complete the application and registration requirements by April 1 will be accepted into the event. This approach is intended to increase access and to determine the competitive structure through tiering.
• Mandatory Tier Declaration (Tier 1 or Tier 2)
• As part of the application process, each team must self-declare as either "Tier 1" or "Tier 2". Teams will be required to provide a brief written rationale supporting their declaration, referencing factors such as competitive history, recent results, athlete experience, league placement, and overall team composition. This information will be reviewed to support appropriate tier placement and competitive balance across divisions. Basketball Manitoba reserves the right to reassign teams to ensure quality competition.
• Final Roster Submission and Payment Deadline – April 1
• As there are no caps on the number of teams accepted, a full and final team roster and full payment are required at the time of registration to secure a position in the Championships. The registration, roster and payment deadline is April 1. Rosters submitted after this date will not be accepted, and incomplete registrations or partial payments will result in the team's exclusion from the event. No exceptions or extensions will be granted under any circumstances.
• Single-Team Participation Rule (Roster Integrity and Competitive Balance)
• Each athlete may be registered to only one (1) team. Players are not permitted to compete on more than one team, regardless of age category, division, or tier. This restriction is necessary due to the Championships’ structure and operating model. Teams are tiered based on competitive history, roster composition, and declared playing level (Tier 1 or Tier 2). Allowing athletes to appear on multiple rosters would undermine the tiering process, distort competitive balance, and compromise the integrity of Tier 1 and Tier 2 divisions.  For these reasons, roster exclusivity is mandatory. Any violation of this policy may result in player ineligibility, game forfeiture, or removal of the team from the Championships.

The details you will need to register your team when registration opens are as follows:

1. Coach and team contact information
2. All coaches' verification of completion of the Respect in Sport program and up-to-date background checks
3. Full roster information (player full names and birth years)
4. A brief written rationale supporting your tiering declaration 
5. Payment ready (eTransfer or credit card)

​Please note that all outstanding fees owed to Basketball Manitoba by a club looking to register for the Manitoba Club Basketball Championships must be paid in full for the club to register teams in the Championships.

• Fee: $600 per team registration fee (with Manitoba rural travel reductions offered)

• Registration Closes: Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm (no extensions)
