TORONTO (November 6, 2025) – Canada Basketball has announced the 20 athletes invited to attend the Senior Women’s National Team training camp, set for November 9–19 in Victoria, British Columbia, as preparations continue for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournament next March in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Among those selected are Winnipeg’s own Emily Potter and Niyah Becker, continuing a strong presence for Manitoba on the senior national team. Both athletes were part of Canada’s roster at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Chile and will now take part in this high-performance environment under head coach Nell Fortner.
The team will train at the University of Victoria and will face Mexico in an international exhibition game on Sunday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. PT at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Tickets for the game are now available starting at $18 (plus fees).
Becker, a 6'2" wing, continues to make strides on the international stage following a strong season in Spain’s Liga Femenina, while Potter brings elite size and FIBA experience to the frontcourt, having played professionally across Europe and Asia. Both are key figures in the program’s ongoing evolution and provide veteran leadership within a deep and talented roster.
Canada’s full 20-player camp roster includes athletes with NCAA, WNBA, and professional experience from across the globe. Four athletes—Delaney Gibb, Syla Swords, Jasmine Bascoe, and Avery Howell—will participate in the early portion of camp before returning to their NCAA teams.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournament is scheduled for March 11–17, 2026, in Istanbul, Türkiye. The top three teams in Canada’s group will earn direct qualification to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, which will be hosted in Germany next September. Canada finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup in Australia, its best result since 1986.
