National Concussion Awareness Day, taking place on Friday, September 19, 2025, encourages everyone to get involved in preventing, recognizing, and managing concussions.
The Sport Medicine and Science Council of Manitoba has announced a province-wide campaign to spread the message that recognizing a concussion is everyone’s responsibility.
The initiative highlights the important role that all groups play in ensuring safe recognition and recovery from concussion, including:
- Athletes
- Coaches
- Parents
- Officials
- Healthcare Providers
- School Staff
- Teammates
Concussions often go untreated or unnoticed when symptoms are not reported or recognized. Common signs may include headache, dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, fatigue, or sensitivity to light and noise. Symptoms can appear immediately or may develop hours after an incident.
The message is simple: if in doubt, sit them out. Early recognition and proper management are essential for safe recovery.
