The Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials (MABO) and Basketball Manitoba have announced that NBA official Matt Kallio will be speaking at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre on Saturday, September 27, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. This is an open event for any level of official, coach, or fan of the game who wants to learn more from one of Canada's best.
Matt’s path to the NBA began in Canadian Collegiate basketball, where he spent 12 years officiating in the CCAA and 11 years at the U SPORTS level. His career expanded internationally after he earned his FIBA certification in 2012, which led to assignments at two FIBA World Cups and the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. Now entering his fourth season as a rostered NBA official, Matt will share the lessons, challenges, and experiences that shaped his journey.
What he will cover:
-
Early steps in officiating and how to get started
-
Growth through CCAA, U SPORTS, FIBA, and into the NBA
-
Coach and referee relationships that elevate the game
-
The on-court fundamentals that matter most to him
