The Brock University Badgers have announced that Winnipeg’s James Lawton has officially committed to its men’s basketball program for the upcoming U SPORTS season.

A product of St. John’s-Ravenscourt School and Ignite Basketball Academy in Winnipeg, James quickly drew attention for his high basketball IQ and raw athleticism. His early success at the high school level led him to join Ignite Academy, where he developed into a key contributor over the past two seasons.

Known for his energy and presence in the paint, James is a versatile athlete with a unique ability to finish around the rim, rebound at a high level, and disrupt opposing offences with timely blocks and shot contests. His impact was especially evident during Ignite’s run at the North Pole Hoops championship, where he stood out for his rim protection, transition speed, and relentless hustle.

“James is a natural talent with the work ethic to elevate his game to the next level,” said coach Charles Carlos from Ignite Academy. “He absorbs systems well, competes hard, and plays to win—traits that will serve him well at Brock.”
