After back-to-back performances propelled his team to a sweep of the crosstown rivals, Donald Stewart has been named the Canada West men's basketball player of the week.

Stewart, a third-year forward, tallied 50 total points and 17 rebounds in a home-and-home series sweep of the Manitoba Bisons last week.

In an 86-79 win on Thursday, Stewart was named Winnipeg's Duckworth Challenge MVP after scoring 22 points with seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. He shot 7-for-11 from the field, including 4-for-6 from three.

Two nights later, Stewart scored a career-high 28 points and added 10 rebounds as the Wesmen won 88-78. Stewart was again efficient from the floor shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-7 from three.

For the weekend, Stewart shot 64 per cent from the field and 62 per cent from three.

The Wesmen are on the road this weekend at Regina in games that can be seen on Canada West TV.
