The Winnipeg Sea Bears have added some shooting depth with their second selection in the CEBL / U SPORTS draft. The team selected Tyler Sagl of Burling, ON with their second-round pick.

Sagl joins the Sea Bears from the Lakehead University Thunderwolves, a team that finished second in the Ontario University Athletics conference with a 16-6 record. The sharp-shooting guard ranked second in the league from beyond the arc with a three-point percentage of .457.

“I am blessed and grateful for the opportunity to compete at a professional level, and to be around pro players and coaches and learn from them as much as possible. I’m super excited to get started,” Sagl said.

The guard’s season-high 19 points came against McMaster on November 26, when he went six-for-six from distance.

"Selecting Tyler Sagl from Lakehead with our second U SPORTS draft pick provides our Sea Bears team with perimeter depth and excellent 3 point shooting. We believe Tyler can grow into a shooter to help our team,” said Mike Taylor, the Seabears’ head coach.

Sagl joins Hildebrandt as a member of the Sea Bears’ inaugural season draft class.

“I'm very proud of Tyler and excited for the opportunity he has ahead of him. He is a hard worker who is committed to maximizing his talent and consistently brings a positive attitude to practice, workouts and games. Tyler will be able to provide shooting and some positional size for the Sea Bears while continuing to develop,” said Ryan Thomson, the Thunderwolves’ men’s basketball head coach.
