The Sarah Strong Fundraiser is pleased to announce its first fundraiser taking place this spring. On Thursday, April 25th, 2019 from 5:30-8:30pm at Bergmann’s on Lombard a formal dinner fundraiser event will be held to raise funds for mental health and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

ABOUT:

This event is in Honor of our friend Sarah Ibrahim who passed away in the fall of 2017.  Sarah was a young and vibrant woman with so many opportunities and life ahead of her. Sarah died by suicide and it was a shock to the community because very few knew she was struggling.

This event is being organized by Montana Kinzel and Emily Potter, both avid members of the basketball community in Manitoba. Montana plays basketball for the Manitoba Bisons and Emily is currently a professional basketball player. Sarah was also a basketball player growing up together with Montana and Emily on the Manitoba provincial team, making this event closely linked to the athletic and basketball community.

Currently, mental health is a topic that still has a stigma surrounding it. The Sarah Strong fundraiser wants to open up the conversation about mental health in all aspects, not just depression and suicide. Mental health is just as important as physical health, a statement we stand behind and want to take action to prove it. We want to start change right in our own community and person by person make it known that it’s okay not to be okay and what you can do to help yourself.

This fundraiser will include dinner, speakers, and raffle prizes. It will be a night to remember and will not be sombre, as we are determined to talk about mental health openly and honestly, and have an amazing time celebrating each other’s strengths and working to help each other through our weaknesses as well. This event will be a formal sit-down dinner because our friend Sarah loved to dress up and always looked her best. We want to host a dinner she would be very proud of.
At our event, attendees will learn about Sarah’s life and her legacy, and also hear other guest speakers share their own journeys through mental health. Expert speakers touching on ways to help and check in on each other will also be an integral part of our evening.

All proceeds of this fundraiser will go back to the Canadian Mental Health Association in Manitoba and Winnipeg. These funds will go directly back into our community to help with programs that will aid many people in their journey’s through mental health.

A new fundraiser is underway in Winnipeg and the support of the basketball community is needed to make it a success. The "Sarah Strong Fundraiser" is in its first year and supports mental health and wellness. It is organized by athletes and closely linked to the basketball community.

The Sarah Strong Fundraiser is a formal event started by Montana Kinzel along with the help of Emily Potter and many other athletes and individuals, in honour of her best friend Sarah Ibrahim. Sarah was a young and vibrant woman with so many opportunities and life ahead of her. Sarah passed away just over a year ago and left so many that love her to pick up the pieces. Sarah died by suicide and it was a shock to the community because very few knew she was struggling.

Mental health is a topic that still has a stigma surrounding it. The Sarah Strong Fundraiser wants to open up the conversation about mental health in all aspects, not just depression and suicide. Mental health is just as important as physical health, a statement we stand behind and want to take action to prove it.

This spring, we will be hosting our first fundraiser to both raise money and to educate about mental health. Partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in Manitoba, all proceeds will go back into the community to provide resources and education for mental health (tax receipts available).

This fundraiser will include dinner, speakers, and a raffle. It will be a night to remember on Thursday, April 25th, 2019 in Winnipeg and we need your support to make it happen. At our event, attendees will learn about Sarah’s life and her legacy, and also hear other speakers share their own journeys through mental health. Expert speakers touching on ways to help and check in on each other will also be an integral part of our evening.

This event will not be sombre, as we are determined to talk about mental health openly and honestly, and have an amazing time celebrating each other’s strengths and working to help each other through our weaknesses as well.
