[Reposted from Canadian Hemophiliac Society] The Barbosa family LOVES basketball! John coaches through the Manitoba Magic Boys and Girls Basketball Club. The Manitoba Magic Basketball Club was created in 2003 as a way to offer student athletes the coaching, training and competition needed to meet their specific level of play; and to offer the exposure to competitive basketball tournaments in many parts of Canada and the United States. John starting coaching with the Manitoba Magic when his daughter was playing. He is now coaching his son Matthew’s team.

IMG_1503The Barbosa family organized a Manitoba Magic Basketball Club tournament benefiting the Manitoba Chapter this October. The Stop the Bleed tournament  was held at St. Paul’s High School and had 5 boys teams playing. Team Magic Barbosa came back from a 12 point deficit to defeat Magic Dela Cruz 23-21 on a last second layup, for the victory and 3rd place finish. The Championship final game was played between team Spirit and team Hotshots. It was a very exciting final with team Spirit winning with a final score of 28-16. Team Spirit played the tournament, undefeated.

This is the second tournament that the Barbosa family has arranged for CHS-MC. The first tournament was in 2011. Thank you so much to John and Melanie for organizing this fundraiser for the Chapter! The tournament raised $1821 for programs and services to help Manitobans managing inherited bleeding disorders.

Thank you tournament
