True North Sports and Entertainment has announced details on a special offer to basketball teams and the upcoming NBA Exhibition Game scheduled for the MTS Centre on Wednesday October 24.  A special coach and youth player clinic has been set up for the evening of Tuesday October 23 at the MTS Centre with coaches Steve Brown, Shawn Respert and David Adleman of the Minnesota Timberwolves program.  The clinic will be open to players and coaches who purchase group tickets as detailed below.  Space is limited in the clinics so get your tickets now!  For full details...

Special Clinic Details:


 


Date:       Tuesday October 23, 2012


Times:      Player's Clinic - 7:00 - 8:00 pm


                Coaches Clinic - 8:00 - 9:00 pm


Location: On court at the MTS Centre, 300 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB


Notes:      Both clinics are open exclusively to those who purchase tickets as detailed below.  Players are asked to come dressed ready to participate (t-shirt, shorts) with a basketball and non-marking athletic shoes  


 


Clinic Ticket Package Details



  • To be eligible for your team to attend the player's camp, a minimum of 10 tickets to the NBA game purchased per team participating ($30 per ticket x 10 = $300).  A maximum of 12 players can attend the player's camp if this minimum of ticket sales is met.  

  • Offer includes an additional free ticket for the coach and admission to the coaches clinic (Tuesday from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm).

  • Both clinics will be run by Steve Brown, Shawn Respert, David Adelman of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dan Becker of Basketball Manitoba.  Details below.  

  • Any coach who had previously purchased a ticket would be able to contact True North to sign up for the clinic by Friday October 19th at 4:30 pm. 

  • Players who had previously purchased a ticket would not be able to attend the player clinic.

Steve Brown


Minnesota Timberwolves Camp Director






Steve has been heavily involved in the sport of basketball for over 35 years and has served in a wide variety of capacities as both a high level player and coach. After finishing a successful playing career for South Dakota State University in the 1970’s breaking a number of scoring records and being named an All-Star and MVP, Steve went on to pursue a basketball coaching career. Steve is still the 4th all-time leading scorer in SDSU history – even after 30 years! 






Steve has worked as an assistant coach at his alma matter South Dakota State University along with Dickinson State College, University of Minnesota. He has head coached at Michigan Tech University and is currently the Minnesota Timberwolves Community Basketball Specialist. He has coached and trained players at all levels from youth, AAU, high school and college levels of the game. Steve was also recently inducted into the South Dakota State University Hall of Fame and the South Dakota High School Hall of Fame this past year.


 


 


 


Shawn Respert


Timberwolves Player Development Coach 






Shawn Respert begins his first season in Minnesota after serving three seasons in Houston as the Rockets' Director of Player Programs. Respert will be responsible for assisting in all of the team's player development initiatives. Previously, he was the Director of Basketball Operations for the NBA D-League. 






Respert, who spent nearly two years at the D-League offices in New York, also spent two-and-a-half years working in a similar capacity at Rice University as its Director of Basketball Operations. 






A former college Player of the Year at Michigan State from 1990-95, Respert was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers with the eighth overall selection in the 1995 NBA Draft. After having his draft rights traded to Milwaukee, Respert played a total of four NBA seasons with the Bucks (1995-96, 1996-97), Toronto Raptors (1996-97, 1997-98), Dallas Mavericks (1997-98) and Phoenix Suns (1998-99). Following his NBA career, he went on to play four years in the European Basketball League, including stints with Olympiakos, Milano, Near East, Imola and Stargard.  


 


 


David Adelman


Timberwolves Player Development Coach 






David Adelman enters his first year with the Timberwolves after spending the past five seasons as head basketball coach at Lincoln High School in Portland, Ore. Adelman will be responsible for assisting in all of the team's player development initiatives.






Adelman went 83-53 in five seasons at Lincoln, leading the Cardinals to Portland Interscholastic district championships in the 2006-07, 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, while also reaching the Oregon Class 6A state championship final in 2009.






Prior to coaching at Lincoln, Adelman was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Jesuit High School in Portland, from 2001-06, helping the team win a state title in 2005. As a player, Adelman helped Jesuit win a state championship in 1999.






Adelman, 30, attended the University of Portland before joining the Jesuit staff. He is in the process of finishing a degree in history from Portland State. Adelman and his wife, Jenny, were married this past summer and reside in Minneapolis.
