The draws have been completed, the athletes are ready and the games are set to begin. Can it really be time for the 2012 Big Country Basketball Tournament!!! After many weeks of planning we are looking forward to the opening tip off tomorrow in all Divisions - Grade 3 / 4 - Co-ed 3 on 3, using the recently adopted format from Basketball Manitoba, Grade 5 / 6 Girls, Grade 7 / 8 Girls and the Senior Girls.
The games will be held at the Lindenwoods Community Centre (Friday night only) and St John's Ravenscourt School all day Saturday and Sunday. The full schedule will be posted at the Gyms as well on the Basketball Manitoba website but opening tip off is at 6:00pm.
Admission to each game will be $2.00 or there is a $5.00 tournament charge.
Big Country Basketball is partnering with the University of Winnipeg Inner City Junior Wesmen program at the Big Country Basketball 2012 Inaugural Tournament.
We are asking all athletes, parents and spectators to bring any gently used (or new) runners to the tournament this weekend so that they may provide an opportunity to help inner City kids through sports. Coached by Bob Axworthy, the Inner City Jr. Wesmen program was created in 2006 to involve inner city kids in sports, education and job placements. The program has over 100 boys and girls participating in basketball and soccer each year. Dig in your closets, see what has been out grown or is not being used and bring them to the BCB tournament. Every person donating footwear will receive free admission to the BCB tournament.
