Women’s Basketball head coach Tanya McKay has added another name to her roster for next season. McKay is pleased to announce the signing of Katie Waring (High River, Alberta) to the Women’s Basketball Program for the start of the 2012-2013 Canada West Conference season next September.  Waring is currently in her final season at Highwood High School. The 5’7” guard averaged 17 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals per game during the 2010-2011 season.  At the high school level she was named the Athlete of the Year on two occasions (grades 10 and 11) and was selected as the grade 11 Basketball Team MVP. She was also named the AAA Alberta High School Basketball Rookie of the Year (2009-2010) and was selected as an All-Star on three occasions at the Provincial All-Star game.

An accomplished scorer, Katie scored 51 points in a single game in her high school’s home tournament against Foothills Composite back in 2009.

Waring is a four year member of Team Alberta and was captain of the bronze medal winning team at the 2009 U15 National Championships in Kamloops, British Columbia.

“Katie is a very talented guard.  We had the opportunity to follow Katie with the Alberta Juvenile Women's Team that competed at the National Championships here in Winnipeg this past August.  Katie is a tough competitor. Relentless describes her efforts on the basketball court.  Katie is a scoring guard who is able to read the flow of the game well.  We are excited she has committed to our program. We are getting a player who wants to be a competitor at both ends of the court”, said Wesmen head coach Tanya McKay.
