http://media.winnipegfreepress.com/images/648*405/2617675.jpgSix decades ago, when Morley Rypp was a kid, he played basketball in the North End, too.  There were gangs even back then.  But there were more teams than gangs.  So it happened, after high school, young Morley followed the bouncing ball to a team sponsored by Stella Mission.  The Canadian Press called them the "mightiest" team in Canadian junior basketball history when they won back-to-back national junior basketball championships in 1950 and 1951.  And "magnificent" is what CP called the team's gesture in 1951's deciding game when, every time the other team's floor strength dwindled because of injury or fouls, the boys from Winnipeg's North End reduced their own numbers accordingly.
