http://basketballsforinnercitykids.com/files/Kids1.jpgThe Basketballs For Inner-City Kids project has just reached its first significant milestone!  This past week saw the distribution of its 1000th basketball to an inner-city school or community group.  The recent delivery to Strathcona School in Winnipeg's core passed the 1000+ mark in distributing new basketballs to children in the city.  The charge, being led by long-time basketball enthusiast, Dennis Bayomi has been working diligently to get as many basketballs in the hands of inner-city kids since September 2006.  The number has actually already exceeded 1,300 in the past few days with other deliveries taking place daily.  To help meet this initiative and demand, Basketballs for Inner City Kids is pleased to announce that its Free Throw Competition Fundraiser is being extended until the end of August. Players are invited to participate by taking a set number of free throws (25, 50, or 100) at any gym or regulation size outdoor court, at any time of their choosing.  Players may participate as individuals or as part of teams.  For details...

Players are to collect pledges, with a minimum pledge total of $10 per player. Prizes will be awarded to the top three players (FT%) in each of several age categories, as well as to the players on the teams with highest FT% in different age categories. Also, the three players collecting the most pledges will win a prize package including a Wilson Evolution basketball. Early-bird fundraising prizes will be awarded for the top three entries received by June 30. Deadline for submitting registration forms and paid-up pledges is August 31.
