Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce that Dan Becker of Winnipeg has been hired as its new Technical Director and High Performance Coach! This newly created position will have Dan manage the activities connected to the Provincial Team, Centre for Performance, Regional Training Centers programs and all coaching development aspects including the NCCP and Super Coaches Clinic programs. Dan's first day with Basketball Manitoba is this capacity will be Monday April 5, 2010. For more on the new position and Dan's history with basketball...Dan Becker is no stranger to the Manitoba basketball scene. He has been an active
player and coach for over 25 years at all levels of the game. His
playing history began as a standout player at Fort Richmond Collegiate
which took him on to play NCAA Division 1 basketball at the University of
Colorado. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Marketing Degree, Dan continued his playing opportunities oversees. His professional career took him all over the world playing in Portugal, Germany, Luxembourg, Israel, Spain, Finland, Mexico and Australia. Dan also suited up in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) in Omaha, the USBL (Long Island), played in the L.A. Summer Pro League and attended an NBA Training Camp with the Indiana Pacers. Dan's playing career also saw him represent Team Canada in the late 80's early 90's on various Student and Training National Teams.

As a coach, Dan has worked with players at all spectrums of the game. He currently holds his NCCP Level 4 certification. He has assisted at the CIS men's level in 2000 to 2004 and took the interim head coaching duties in 2004-05 with the University of Manitoba Men's Program. Over this same time period, Dan coached a number of Basketball Manitoba's Provincial Teams at the 15U and 17U levels, culminating with the Canada Games team in 2005. In 2004, Dan was an active coach in the Canada Basketball Centre for Performance Program and an instructor at the Nike All-Canada Camp. Dan has also served as a Technical Advisor for two basketball feature films; ESPN's 'A Season on the Brink' in 2001 and 'Full of It' in 2005.
Recently, Dan has been working with the Oak Park Raiders Varsity Boy's Program with Randy Kusano and is also coaching his daughter's basketball team in the WMBA.
Upon accepting the new Basketball Manitoba position, Dan Becker
commented, "I am really excited about the opportunity to work with the
basketball
community and the impact this new position will have on it!"
Basketball Manitoba Executive Director Adam Wedlake added, "We are
very happy to have Dan join us to help take basketball to the next level
here in Manitoba. There are a number of new initiatives we have in
the works and Dan will help make these a reality for us in moving the
sport forward!"
