BRANDON, MB – Brandon University’s Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Keith Vassell, has resigned from his position with the team.  In making the decision, Vassell said there had been a variety of factors that led to his decision, but said he has enjoyed his time at BU and has learned a great deal.

“Being a coach at Brandon University means wearing a lot of hats, and I felt that with that and for personal reasons a change was in order,” said Vassell.

In accepting the resignation, BU Dean of Education, Jerry Storie said that Vassell had done his job with integrity and did his best for both students, and the Bobcat program.

"I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Vassell ‘s principled approach to dealing with the difficult challenges of coaching and administering an athletic program here at BU," said Storie.

BU Athletic Director, Kirk De Fazio said Vassell’s greatest strengths were his compassion for his athletes and his good relationships with colleagues and students.

“Keith Vassell is a gentleman and conducts himself with great dignity. I will certainly miss him on a personal level,” said De Fazio.

Vassell will complete his teaching assignment before his departure from Brandon University.

A search for a new head coach will get underway in the coming days.
