It is with great sadness that Basketball Manitoba shares the news of the passing of Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame Member (MBHOF Class of '03) Ron Meyers. The funeral service is being held on Sunday January 17. The service will be held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue at 561 Wellington Cres., at 2:00 pm. He will be buried after wards at the Shaarey Zedek cemetery at 230 Armstrong Avenue and Main Street across from Kildonan Park. From the late 1950's to the mid 1970's, Ron wrote about basketball for The Winnipeg Tribune. Initially, he covered high school and university
games and later was also assigned to senior basketball. In those roughly 25 years, hardly a day went by without the Tribune publishing a basketball story under the Ron Meyers byline. Ron's support of high school basketball earned him a special award in 1973 for outstanding contribution to basketball from the Manitoba Basketball Coaches' Association. Ron was better known as a Manitoba Provincial Court Judge and was a very active member of the local sport and arts community. He had just retired from the bench on January 4 of this year.
