BRANDON, MB – Brandon University is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith Vassell as Head Coach of the BU Bobcats men’s basketball team, for term effective April 1, 2008. Coach Vassell is a former Bobcat who led the team to five National Championship appearances and is the second-leading scorer of all time with the team. Vassell was a member of the Men’s National team for 11 years, and has coaching experience as a professional coach in Europe, including as the Men’s Head coach for Iceland’s national team.

“Keith is a passionate family man who has the life experience to provide the long term stability that the Bobcats program is striving for,” says BU Athletic Director Kirk DeFazio. “He also brings with him a plethora of recruiting connections from all over North America, which will be a great asset for our program.”

Connections who are quick to praise the veteran athlete.

“Keith is an outstanding basketball ambassador for Canada,” says Jay Triano, Assistant Coach of the National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors.

Keith will bring tremendous leadership to the Bobcats’ nationally ranked program,” says Steve Konchalski, Head Coach of the St. Francis Xavier University men’s basketball team out of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. “He is a person of tremendous character and integrity.”

Roy Ranna, Technical Director for Basketball Ontario simply calls Vassell “a great basketball mind.”
