Bison
Rachel
Hart
has been selected as 2006-07 Canada West Defensive Player
of the Year.

Hart,
21, finished her fourth season with the Bisons and continues to
put up impressive numbers on both the defensive and offensive ends
of the court. Hart not only was second on the team in scoring and
tenth in Canada West at 13.7 points per game but she was responsible
with the task of playing defense against the top players every game
in the Canada West season. This is evident in her Canada West stats
during the regular conference season as the Hamilton, ON native
was tenth with 50.0% field goal percentage, 11th in rebounding (6.2)
and fifth with 4.14 assists per game. Hart was first in free throw
percentage at 90.3% and is second in conference steals with 3.41,

at 1.57 and 13th in defensive boards (4.18) while playing in 28.95
minutes per game, 15th most in the conference.

Bison
women’s head coach Pam
Danis
stated, “Rachel’s defence is a major contributor to our
team’s success. Rachel is often called upon to guard our opponent’s
best offensive players and is capable of switching defensive assignments
in mid-game. Although she is only 5’8”, Rachel is frequently assigned
to guard much bigger players and she has developed into one of the
best post defenders in our league.”
