BRANDON, MB – The Brandon University Bobcats are suddenly one win away from another trip to Halifax.  The top-ranked ‘Cats completed a Great Plains Championship sweep of the
Regina Cougars on Saturday night, cruising to a 93-79 victory in front
of a frenzied crowd at the BU Gymnasium.

“I’m just really proud of the way our guys played this weekend, the way they carried themselves as a team,” said second year Brandon head coach Barnaby Craddock, whose team has won 15 straight games. “We played like a #1 team is supposed to play.”

Brandon will now host next weekend’s Canada West Final Four, a tournament that will send two teams through to the CIS National Championships.

“We’ve got to keep getting better,” added Craddock, whose club will take on the conference wild card team next Friday night. “We’re playing our best ball of the season, but we can’t stop now. There’s going to be some tremendous teams coming here, and we need to be ready.”

Adam Hartman led the way on Saturday for BU, delivering 19 points and 4 rebounds, while Stevens Marcelin picked up his second double-double of the weekend, notching 13 points and 13 boards. Meantime, Yuri Whyms and Yul Michel each scored 12 points and Chad Jacobson added 11.

“We’ve got great intensity right now,” said Michel. “We’re playing together… we have a great group of guys on this team and we’re supporting each other in all we do.”

Regina’s Drew Kuzminski led all scorers in his final CIS game, dropping 33 points while picking up 11 rebounds. Jamal Williams and Jeffrey Lukomski added 16 and 12 points respectively.

The Bobcats shot 56% (32-57) from the field, 33% (2-6) from three point range, and 68% (27-40) from the free throw line. The Cougars made 42% (25-60) of their field goals, 31% (5-16) of their three’s, and 60% (24-40) of their free throw’s. Brandon out-rebounded Regina 36-30.
