Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the continuation of an opportunity for elementary and middle schools in the greater Winnipeg area to a part of a new outreach program led by Winnipeg based professional basketball player AJ Basi.

This program comes as an extension of the visits that professional basketball players Emily Potter and Keith Omoerah have made with Basketball Manitoba since December 2018.

AJ is one of the most successful basketball players to come out of Manitoba and is now able to get involved with Basketball Manitoba with this new in-school opportunity for schools to take advantage of at NO COST TO THE SCHOOL.

ABOUT AJ BASI

Amarjit Basi was a high school standout for the Sturgeon Heights Collegiate Huskies, helping lead them to their first-ever provincial championship in school history.  In Grade 11, Amarjit was selected to play on the 17U Manitoba basketball team where he was the top scorer for the squad. During his time at Sturgeon Heights, he led the team to the Provincial Final Four all 4 years of high school and would be named to the Provincial All-Star Team 3 times.

In Basi's final year of high school, he was selected to the All-Manitoba Team as the top player at his position and ranked #3 overall in the annual Winnipeg Sun player rankings.  Following a stellar high school career, Amarjit earned himself a scholarship to play for the University of Manitoba Bisons.

Basi finished his 5-year playing career at the University of Manitoba as a 3-time captain and the school’s all-time leader in 3 pointers made while placing himself Top 10 in CanWest league history (189). In his senior season, he was also 5th in the league in steals. Basi was regarded as one of the top scorers in his conference and in his time with the program would lead the team to back to back Canada West Final Fours and the University National Championships for the first time in 32 years.

Professional Career
Upon completing his university basketball career, Amarjit also graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Psychology.
