The TMHS program has been designed to teach basic basketball skills to inner city youth (ages 12-14) in a basketball camp environment. The program was initiated by Basketball Manitoba together with NBA player Todd MacCulloch. The program is completely funded by Todd MacCulloch and the Sport Manitoba Bi-Lateral Program and was written by Winnipeg native Garth McAlpine.
Each fall, 6 inner city Winnipeg schools are selected to take part in the program. Each school is given a head coach that together with coaches from the school take the participants through 8 specific sessions. The program traditionally runs October through December out of the 6 Winnipeg schools. A similar program also runs April to June out of 5+ inner-city Winnipeg schools.
The six schools that were involved in the tenth running of the Todd MacCulloch Hoop School included...
- Tyndall Park School - Coached by Dennis Ponte
- William Whyte Community School - Coached by Daniel West
- Shaughnessy Park School - Coached by Matthew Honer
- St. John's High School - Coached by Tim Smith
- Principal Sparling School - Coached by Timothy Strachan
- Kent Road School - Coached by Colin Harrison
Special thanks to St. John's High School for hosting this year's jamboree!
Thank you also go out to all the coaches of the program and all the assistant coaches from the six schools!
The program is funded by Todd MacCulloch and the Sport Manitoba Bi-Lateral Program for which Basketball Manitoba is extremely grateful.
