Welcome to the Basketball Manitoba Regional Training Centre!
The Regional Training Centres (RTC) are patterned after the Centre for
Performance Program (CP) and strive to provide athletes an opportunity
to enhance their basketball skill level in preparation for the Manitoba Provincial Teams (15U & 17U), the Nike Centres for Performance and beyond. In addition to this,
they promote individual skills, team concepts,
strength and agility education, time management, and
planning and personal development skills.

The 2009-10 edition of the Basketball Manitoba Regional Training Centre will be housed in the Westman Region, Central Region (PDF) and Winnipeg Region of Manitoba and offer regional basketball development opportunities to athletes ages 12-17 in the targeted area.
Please note that the Westman & Central Regional Training Centres will be based
and targeted to players in those respective areas, but is open to people in
the neighboring regions. The Winnipeg Region is targeted to players age 12-15 (grades 7, 8, 9) as the CP program is offered for players age 15-17 (grade 10, 11, 12).
The primary focus of the RTC's is to provide athletes from ages 12 - 17 with the opportunity to...
- Work and train together to Improve their basketball skills based on Sport Canada's long term athlete development (LTAD) concepts. These concepts are an extension of Canada Basketball's Centre for Performance .
- Be identified for participation in the Manitoba Provincial Team Program
- Identify and train local area coaches to become better basketball coaches.
There are plans to expand this program in the other 4
regions of Manitoba in the near future! Those regions will include Eastman, Interlake, Norman, Parkland and Winnipeg.
RTC's operate between the months of October and April of each year. 36
hours (6 at tryouts and 30 with training sessions) of training and development are received by each athlete who
participates.
Fifteen boys and fifteen girls from the each the Westman, Central and Winnipeg Region will be
identified on an annual basis to participate in the RTC
training programs. The program is directed at training athletes and
does not involve competition. Tryouts are traditionally held in early-October and the program runs through until April.

The open RTC Tryouts traditionally run in October each year. Read more specifics on our RTC Tryout News Page.
- Register with the BM website to be automatically notified of future tryouts!
- The program will follow with regular training sessions
(typically on Sundays) from October to April. The program will be
lightened in January & February to accommodate for the school
basketball season.
2009-10 Program Fees (top)
Athletes are expected to attend the set tryouts in September or October and
complete the RTC Tryout Form (PDF) and pay the $25.00 tryout fee. Athletes
who make one of the 15 spots in the RTC program will be required to pay
a $300.00 participation fee (payable to 'Basketball MB') due at the start of the program.
The $300.00
participation fee which covers costs associated with player's gear (jersey, shorts), team
equipment, coaching development, facilities, membership & insurance
to Basketball Manitoba and some basic administrative costs.

1. What is Basketball Manitoba’s Regional Training Centre Program?
- Basketball
Manitoba’s Regional Training Centre Program is an elite program for
players and coaches designed to teach individual offensive and team
fundamentals while also presenting aspects of sports science that are
necessary to become a high level player and coach.
- The RTC
program is the key component of Basketball Manitoba’s provincial player
and coach identification and development strategy.
- Basketball
Manitoba’s Regional Training Centre Program was established because of
an identified need for a more systematic, thorough and unified
provincial approach to identify and develop outstanding junior
basketball players in every region in Manitoba. It was also identified
that a network of coaches be established and continuing development of
this network of coaches be undertaken to ensure the thorough and
contemporary delivery of the technical program to the athletes.
- Our vision is to become a national leader in basketball development.
2. How Does Basketball Manitoba’s Regional Training Centre Program Work?
- The
Regional Training Centre program is a provincially directed initiative
which is delivered through the province in partnership with Sport
Manitoba and Canada Basketball.
- The program offers highly qualified
coaching staff trained with National Team curriculum to work with
participants between the ages of 12 to 17 years.
- The program has a heavy emphasis on developing individual offensive fundamentals and also teaches team principles of play.
- Players receive introductory information on sports nutrition, psychology, strength, agility and physical testing.
- Through the use of RTC training diaries athletes are taught time management and planning skills.
- Participants
have regional training pods for "individual" or small group coaching.
Centralized team training camps create an elite competitive environment
to work on individual offensive fundamentals and team principals of
play.
3. Who are the RTC Coaches?

All RTC Coaches are experienced and highly qualified and continue to
attend coaching clinics. They are supported by a committed and
extensive network of emerging coaches who provide regular personalized
training of players throughout Canada.
