CHANGES FOR 2010

Age Advancement

In the fall of 2008, the Basketball Manitoba Board of Directors passed a motion permitting a player of a younger age the option to play an age up on a Provincial Team. Any Midget age athlete who wishes to tryout for the Juvenile age program is welcome to do so. A decision can be made by the Juvenile coaching staff after the first session if the Midget athlete will continue with the Juvenile tryouts or will be asked to return to the Midget tryouts. For details on this, please contact Adam Wedlake.

14U Developmental Program

In the summer of 2010, Basketball Manitoba is pleased to offer an additional opportunity for athletes at the 14U level to be a part of the Manitoba Provincial Team Program. These 14U teams will hold their tryouts alongside the 15U Midget Provincial Team and the 24 athletes selected (12 male, 12 female) will then continue regularly training through July. The 14U team will also attend two warm-up tournaments outside of Manitoba with the other 15U and 17U teams. The 14U team however, will not attend a national championship.

Additional Tryouts

All Provincial Team coaches may run another weekend of tryouts on the 3rd and/or 4th weekends of April to finalize their teams. The factor in determining if there will be an extension are connected to the overall numbers out at the initial tryouts. These details will be made directly to those athletes who are selected to return to a future tryout.

Practices in May

Basketball Manitoba is permitting the Provincial Teams to run as many as one team practice per week in the month of May. This limitation will reduce the number of schedule conflicts an athlete may have with their other basketball programs occurring over this period. These details will be shared directly with the athletes selected to one of the Provincial Teams.
