Basketball Manitoba has announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2010 and 2011 Manitoba Provincial Team Program coaching positions. In 2010, there will be 6 Provincial Teams offered (male and female 14U, 15U, 17U teams) with the 15U and 17U attending a national championship in August. The 14U team is being created to springboard the program to the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games in British Columbia and will travel and train as the other 2 teams, but will not attend a National. Basketball Manitoba, one of the
province's leading sports governing bodies, annually runs provincial teams to
provide elite athletes with a unique opportunity to develop their skills
through a high quality summer practices and challenging competition
schedule. Coaches can either apply as a 'team' or individually.

team for the positions of...
- 'Head Coach 15U', 'Assistant Coach 15U' and 'Head Coach 14U', 'Assistant Coach 14U' for the 15U & 14U Boys Provincial Teams Program
- 'Head Coach 15U', 'Assistant Coach
15U' and 'Head Coach 14U', 'Assistant Coach 14U' for the 15U & 14U
Girls Provincial Teams Program
- Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the 17U Boys Provincial Team Program
- Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the 17U Girls Provincial Team Program
The 17U & 15U BOYS teams will participate in the 2010 National Championships to be hosted in Winnipeg while the 17U & 15U GIRLS teams will participate in the 2010 National Championships in Toronto, ON. The '14U' Provincial Team will train with the 15U teams and join the 17U and 15U teams at a number of
lead up tournaments in July 2010, but not attend a national championship.
15U & 14U Year Old Provincial Teams (a.k.a. Midget and Developmental)
The '15U' & '14U' Provincial Teams will train and compete in inter-provincial play with the 15U team representing Manitoba at the National Championships in August 2010 and at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2011. The teams will attract elite athletes born in 1995 or later and provide high levels of coaching and competition. The 15U Head Coach will oversee both the '15U' and '14U' teams and for 2011 will appoint (with Board approval) 'Assistant Coach 15U', 'Head Coach 14U', and 'Assistant Coach 14U' to their respective positions. In 2011, this same 3-person coaching team would make up the '2011 Western Canada Summer Games' team as Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager.
This summer position for 2010 and 2011 will be
an extremely rewarding experience for successful coaching applicants meeting
the following criteria:
Head Coach 15U, Asst. Coach 15U, Head Coach 14U, Asst. Coach 14U
- Head Coach 15U = Full Level 3 NCCP Certification or higher and minimum 2 seasons of experience
as a head coach at a minimum of Grade 9 Level (or equivalent).
- Assistant Coach 15U = Full Level 2 NCCP Certification or higher
- Head Coach 14U = Full Level 2 NCCP Certification or higher and minimum 2 seasons of experience
as a head coach at a minimum of Grade 9 Level (or equivalent).
- Assistant Coach 14U = Full Level 1 NCCP Certification or higher
- Coaches can either apply as a 'team' or individually
- All coaches must complete the Sport Manitoba Respect in Sport online program
- All coaches will be undergo a Police Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- All coaches must have also completed a first aid and
athlete injury educational program recognized by Basketball Manitoba.
17U Juvenile Provincial Teams
The '17U' Provincial Teams will train and compete in inter-provincial play providing an
opportunity for elite athletes born in 1993 or later an opportunity to receive
high levels of coaching and competition. This summer position for 2010 and 2011 will be
an extremely rewarding experience for successful coaching applicants meeting
the following criteria:
Head Coach and
Assistant Coach
- Full Level 3 NCCP Certification
(Head Coach)
- Full Level 2 NCCP Certification
(Assistant Coach)
- Coaches can either apply as a 'team' or individually
- Minimum 2 seasons of experience
as a head coach at a minimum of Grade 10 Level (or equivalent).
- All coaches must complete the Sport Manitoba Respect in Sport online program
- All coaches will be undergo a Police Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Completion of a first aid and
athlete injury educational program recognized by Basketball Manitoba.
Honorarium
Successful
applicants are eligible to receive an honorarium at the completion of the
summer programs.
