Basketball Manitoba is proud to partner with Sport Manitoba and embrace the Respect in Sport program to help ensure a safe and positive sport environment for all participants. Respect in Sport (RIS) is an on-line training course to Assist coaches, regardless of their sport, in identifying and dealing with issues of abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying. Former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy is championing Respect in Sport as its spokesperson. The initiative is fully endorsed by the Province of Manitoba.
“Sheldon is an active crusader in raising awareness of abuse and the negatives that can occur and we are pleased to support his efforts,” said Eric Robinson, Minister responsible for Sport. “We are being proactive in ensuring that a safe haven exists for sport participants and Manitoba is proud to be a leader in this respect.”
The three-hour course can be taken at the coach’s leisure, in its entirety or in separate half-hour modules. Coaches will be required to complete the course by December 2007. There is no cost to the coach and the program will provide for recertification after the third and fifth year. Sport Manitoba, along with Basketball Manitoba believes in being proactive in ensuring sport in our province is safe and welcoming for all participants.
Respect in Sport helps us promote those values through a simple and convenient on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport.
Respect in Sport enables coaches to deal with legal and moral responsibilities, making them less vulnerable and more confident in dealing with sensitive issues. A risk management tool, Respect in Sport will help sport organizations reduce liability.
As a mandatory requirement, all coaches identified with a Provincial Sport Organization (Basketball Manitoba) are required to take the course by December 2007. These programs include...
On the following page in the New Registration Box, register for the program by selecting the sport in which you are currently coaching and click on Register Now.
On the following page, confirm your sport selection and complete all sections. Any section marked with a "!" is mandatory and must be completed.
Please note:
the user name and password are case specific
Make sure you enter your actual date of birth. This is a critical data element as it may be used in the future to restore your user name or password should you forget them.
Submit your registration information by clicking on Submit. Once your information has been accepted, you will be taken directly to the main page of the course curriculum.
Upon completion of the course you will receive a certification number and can print a certificate. These items prove you have completed the course.
Once you have completed the program and are coaching in another sport, you can re-enter the program and add that sport to your certification. This may only be completed once you have completed your certification process in the sport you originally registered with.
To return to where you left off in the course, click on the first module and/or section button that does not have a check mark.
