The University of Winnipeg Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mike Raimbault is pleased to announce the commitments of Nolan Gooding, Kelvin Smith and David Stephens. All three players will be joining the men’s basketball program in time for the 2010-2011 season in September.

Nolan Gooding, 6’0"guard, is an Ontario College transfer who joins the Wesmen after attending Humber College and St.Clair College in Ontario. During his time at Humber College, Gooding helped lead his team to an OCAA Championship and a berth in the National Championships. At St.Clair College, he averaged 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.

“Nolan brings toughness and a great desire to win to our program. He is a competitor who will bring a great deal of intensity to the floor each and every day. His experience and leadership will be big assets for our program”, said Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mike Raimbault.

Kelvin Smith, 6’6” graduated this past June from Price High School in Los Angeles, California. During his senior year, Smith averaged 19 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals per game. Aside from being a top athlete, Kelvin was also a top academic achiever graduating from Price High School with a 3.5 grade point average and was named to the school’s honour roll.

“I am very excited about adding Kelvin to our program this season. He is a talented first year player who will bring athleticism, scoring and versatility to the team while playing multiple positions”, added Raimbault.

David Stephens, 6’7” forward joins the Wesmen after stints with St.Francis Xavier and the University of Toronto. A former Wesmen Classic Dunk contest champion, Stephens brings both size and athleticism to the Wesmen frontcourt this season. After playing the 2006/07 season at Toronto, he suffered a serious injury which has kept him from making his return to the court until now.

“David is another versatile addition to our roster. He has the ability to step out and shoot the ball, a skilled passer and a consummate teammate. The struggle that he has gone through to return to the classroom and the court has been a difficult one, but it has made him hungry to get back into the CIS and prove himself again”, said Raimbault.
