The Basketball Manitoba Summer League (BMSL) is an invite based summer basketball league open to male and female teams based out of the University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, Canadian Mennonite University, Red River College and Manitoba's Provincial 17U Teams. In all, each division is comprised of 6 teams which will compete in 11 games from late May through July.
Its purpose is to provide a high level competitive environment for Manitoba's 17U Provincial Juvenile Teams an opportunity to prepare for the National Championships in August. The league also provides an opportunity for the local university / college teams an opportunity to prepare their respective teams for the upcoming fall for both new and returning players.
Each team will play 10 games plus one play-off game. The teams will be seeded based on their league record. Basketball Manitoba tie-break rules will be used to determine seeding if necessary.
Each team will receive a 10 minute warm up (time permitting) with a minimum of a 5 minute warm up.
Games will consist of 2 x 30 minute running time halves with stop time in the last 2 minutes of the game only.
All halftimes will be 5 minutes each.
In the running time games, each team will receive 1 timeout per half with no carry-overs. Overtime will consist of a 5 minute period with one time out and stop time in the last 2 minutes.
When teams are playing the 17U Provincial Teams, they will play regular FIBA rules and time standards.
Each team is to provide their own numbered uniforms and warm-up basketballs. Basketball Manitoba will provide one game ball. All men's league teams will use the size 7 ball and all women will use the size 6 ball. The official game ball will be the Wilson Solution.
The Home team will wear 'light' jerseys. An exception will be for the Men's League games verses the University All-Star team who will always wear dark.
