REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

Basketball Manitoba and the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves are very excited to announce details on an upcoming player development camps scheduled for Winnipeg on Friday October 23 and Saturday October 24, 2009. The camp is being targeted to boys and girls currently in grades 5, 6 & 7. Steve Brown, the Director of the Minnesota Region at the National Basketball Academy and Timberwolves / Lynx Community Basketball Specialist will run the camps for a maximum of 50 boys and 50 girls. Registration will occur on a first come, first served basis. The 2-day camp will run in Winnipeg at Tec Voc High School (1555 Wall Street) at 10:30 am - 1:30 pm for the girls and 2:00 - 5:00 pm for the boys on both days. The Friday of this weekend is the province-wide 'SAG' in-service day, allowing students at this age to attend!  In all, each camper will receive 6 hours of court time, a basketball, a Timberwolves t-shirt and a ticket to an upcoming Timberwolves game in Minneapolis. Dates:        October 23 and 24, 2009

Times:      Friday - Girls = 10:30 am - 1:30 pm; Boys = 2:00 - 5:00 pm

                Saturday - Girls = 10:30 am - 1:30 pm; Boys = 2:00 - 5:00 pm

Location:  Tec Voc High School, 1555 Wall Street, Winnipeg (full map below)

Camp Fee: $75.00 per person  (registration below)

Registration Deadline:  Wednesday October 21, 2009, 5:00 pm

Grades:  Any Manitoba student currently in grades 5, 6 or 7. A maximum of 50 boys and 50 girls will be permitted to register on a first come first served basis. Register now to avoid disappointment!

Camp Notes:

  • The Friday of this weekend is the province-wide 'SAG' in-service day (no classes) and the Saturday will see no WMBA games scheduled as the Super Coaches Clinic is running all day for all league coaches.
  • Players are to attend BOTH days of the camp (6 hours of court time in all)
  • Players are asked to show up 15 minutes prior to the Friday session to register. Registration will begin at 10:15 and 1:30 pm respectively (no sooner)
  • The camp will focus on individual skills suitable for this age level.
  • No previous basketball experience is required - all are welcome!
  • Players are asked to come dressed ready to participate including non-marking runners, shorts and a t-shirt.
  • Parking at Tec Voc on the Friday may be limited as the school is being used for a teacher's in-service that day.
  • Each player in attendance will receive a Minnesota Timberwolves t-shirt and a Rawlings size 6 basketball to keep.
  • A Timberwolves staffer will be on hand to sell additional game tickets to an upcoming T-Wolves game in Minneapolis to other family members at a discounted price.

Steve Brown – Minnesota Director at the National Basketball Academy and Minnesota Timberwolves Community Basketball Specialist

Steve has been heavily involved in the sport of basketball for over 35 years and has served in a wide variety of capacities as both a high level player and coach. After finishing a successful playing career for South Dakota State University in the 1970’s breaking a number of scoring records and being named an All-Star and MVP, Steve went on to pursue a basketball coaching career. Steve is still the 4th all-time leading scorer in SDSU history – even after 30 years!

Steve has worked as an assistant coach at his alma matter South Dakota State University along with Dickinson State College, University of Minnesota. He has head coached at Michigan Tech University and is currently the Minnesota Timberwolves Community Basketball Specialist. He has coached and trained players at all levels from youth, AAU, high school and college levels of the game.
