Basketball and volleyball are sports that have a strong tradition over the years in Winnipeg.  These two sports help teach our kids the values of commitment, team play and personal and social growth in a friendly and fun environment.

Westwood Collegiate and Warriors Athletics have been a strong part of this solid sports tradition. They will be offering the 8th annual Mini Warriors Spring Basketball and Volleyball program in an effort to assist with the grass roots development of these two popular sports. These programs will begin during the week of April 2nd and end the first week of May. The basketball program is designed for Juniors (grades 2, 3 & 4) and Seniors (grades 5 & 6). The volleyball program is designed for grades 4, 5 & 6. Dates and times are on the registration sheet below.

Your child will receive 8 one-hour sessions for basketball and 5 one-hour sessions for volleyball throughout this period.  The sessions will include a skill development component and game progressions.  Westwood Phys Ed teachers will lead all of the sessions. Sarah Lundgren (U of M  Can West All-Star and double silver medallist as a provincial team coach) will be the head instructor for most basketball sessions and Bryan Enns (U of M Player of the Year, Team Canada member, 2017 High School Coach of the Year) will be the head instructor for most volleyball sessions.  Present and former Warrior student athletes and coaches will be assisting.  The cost is $60.00 for the basketball program, $30.00 for the volleyball program, and $90.00 for both.

It is hoped that through positive experiences, early skill development and growth and interaction with others, Mini Warriors participants will continue to play the games of basketball and volleyball in future years.

If you’d like to get active while your kids are, sign up for our adult workout program in our Fitness Centre! Led by Peter Sdrolias (U of M two-time All Canadian, CIS gold medallist in volleyball, MSc in Exercise Science), you will be able to participate in a one hour session every Tuesday and Thursday while your child is busy in our gym.  It’s only $40 and is geared towards all ability levels, so lace up those shoes and come have some fun!

To ensure a spot in the 2018 Mini Warriors, register early, as we are limited to 48 participants per session. Email will be sent to confirm registrations closer to the deadline.

The Deadline date for registration is Friday, March 23rd, 2018. Please fill out the form online and drop off payment at Westwood Collegiate (360 Rouge Rd), or eTransfer to mini.warriors.sports@gmail.com.
