TORONTO, ON (October 12, 2016) - Canada Basketball has announced the call for nominations for the 2017 Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame are now open.

"Canada has a rich basketball history, beginning with its inception almost 125 years ago" said Michele O'Keefe, President & CEO, Canada Basketball. "The Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame is our way of honouring and celebrating those who have contributed to the development and enhancement of basketball in Canada and internationally."

The deadline for nominations is November 14, 2016, with inductees being announced in early 2017. Nominations can be made in any one of five categories: athletes, teams, coaches, officials, and builders.

Inductees are awarded bi-annually.  In 2015, national team alumni Jim Zoet and George Stulac were inducted in the athlete category.

Nominations will be accepted from the following:
  • The Board of Directors;
  • Any member in good standing;
  • Any citizen of Canada, provided that the nomination has been signed by 10 individuals and receives the signed approval of either the Board of Directors of Canada Basketball or an active member association prior to the submission to the Hall of Fame; and
  • Any Canadian media representative provided that the nomination is received on official letterhead of the media source and is signed by an official representative of any member in good standing of Canada Basketball.
All nominees must be a Canadian citizen, or a resident of Canada for a minimum of three years, or born in Canada, or made their distinguished contribution to the game of basketball in Canada.
