The CMU Women's Basketball Team has announced the commitment of Winnipeg's Vincent Massey Collegiate guard Rhianna Nelson for the 2015-16 season. Amongst Nelson accomplishments were her inclusion in the Winnipeg Sun's annual Manitoba High School Girls Basketball Top Ten list released last March. The 5'8 wing held down the number 10 position overall and was ranked fifth of all Grade 12 players to be recognized in the province.

"What sets Rhianna apart from other players is her great work ethic and her ability to play superb defence," said head coach Joe DiCurzio.

Nelson pushed the Trojans to a 2015 MHSAA 'AAAA' Final Four berth last March earning herself an All-Star selection in the process, despite her team falling to the eventual Champions from Sisler High School in the Provincial semis.

The Graduating All-Star was also a member of the history-making Manitoba Provincial U17 Girls team last summer. She helped the province win Manitoba's first National Gold Medal in Girls Basketball since 1992.

"Rhianna's experience playing on the provincial team, a very successful high school team and playing on a very competitive travelling club team (Winnipeg Wolves), will allow her to compete and contribute immediately for us," added DiCurzio, "She has played many guard positions and as a result she can shoot from long range, she can really attack the basket and she sees the floor extremely well."

CMU Blazers AthleticsMost recently, Nelson was selected the recipient of the 2015 Ron Meyers Award at the annual Basketball Manitoba Awards Banquet for her Excellence in Leadership.
