UPDATED: Coach Jon Giesbrecht of Winnipeg has announced he will be hosting a “Pick and Roll” Day Camp for Male and Female players aged 14-18 on June 6th from 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm. Cost to attend is $85 a player. Camp location is to be determined.   This camp is a must for players. Pick and roll is dominating today’s game from High School to the Pros… Players need to be able to execute pick and roll skills and understand concepts to continue to advance. To educate players, Coach Giesbrecht will run a day camp to develop understanding of pick and roll play. Players will get an unique experience of not only learning the skills and concepts of pick and roll play on the court but also in the classroom, where Coach Giesbrecht breaks everything down using video.

Advanced Pick and Roll Basketball Camp

Where/When: Location TBA, June 6th (Day Camp: 9am to 12pm, 1pm to 4pm)

Ages: Open to Male and Female ages 14-18 (or Grade 8 to 12)

Cost: $85 per player

Camp Description: Coach Giesbrecht will work with players in the video room (CIS/Division 1 Male and Female Clips prepared) and on the court in understanding the pick and roll game. Coach Giesbrecht will teach appropriate skills and concepts in pick and roll play. Ability to play in pick and roll is crucial for any player wanting to play at the next level.

*Bring own basketball, note pad, pen. Arrive minimum 20 minutes prior to start of camp, fully dressed in basketball attire.

  • Completed fourth year with John Taylor Collegiate JV Boys basketball as Head Coach
  • Completed first year with Basketball Manitoba’s Centre of Performance 
  • Various experience within the Rising Stars League as well as WMBA
  • Video work includes: Synergy, SportsCode, and Sideline Sports
  • Team achievements include: 2011 & 2014 Junior Varsity Provincial Champions, 2014 National Championship (Team Toba)
  • Coaching Honours: 2014 JV Coach of the Year, 2014 Jim Bulloch Winner, 2011 WMBA Bruce Russell Memorial COY


Here are the skills and concepts he will be teaching:
  • Spacing in Pick and Roll Play
  • Basics of Pick and Roll Defense
  • Basics of Pick and Roll Offense (4 S’s of Pick and Roll Play)
  • Counters vs Coverages (Along with appropriate skills i.e Types of Passes  etc)
  • Pick and Roll with Post Play
  • Pick and Roll with Drive and Kick
Skills and concepts will be taught out of the following types of pick and roll… Side Pick and Roll, Middle Pick and Roll, Drag Pick and Roll and Step-Up Pick and Roll.

Coach Bio:

Jon brings experience from youth to university level. Most recently, Coach Giesbrecht joined the Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s basketball program as an assistant coach after working two years as an assistant at the University of Manitoba. Jon will again be working with the U17 Team Manitoba Male Provincial Team this summer, which last summer’s team ended up winning gold at nationals. Jon has been involved with John Taylor Collegiate JV Boys for the past 5 years... In those 5 years John Taylor Collegiate has won 2 provincial JV Boys championships (Assisting and Head Coach). Jon’s video work includes experience with SportsCode Gamebreaker Elite, Sideline Sports XPS, and Synergy. Jon has done minor video work for Canada’s Junior Men’s National Team, and FIBA.
