Basketball Manitoba is very pleased to announce its Provincial Team Program coaching line up for the summer of 2015.  This summer, the program will feature a total of 6 teams including the male & female 17U, 16U and 15U teams.  The head coaches of the 6 male & female programs (and pictured in order to the left) are Dan Becker and Sarah Lundgren at the 17U level, Stephen Tackie and Mitch Catacutan at 16U and Eric Sung and Alyssa Grant at 15U.  Tryouts for the teams will take place on May 22-24, 2015 at the University of Winnipeg.  The program will culminate at the Canada Basketball National Championships in Halifax (15U & 17U male), Edmonton (15U & 17U female) and the Western Canada Summer Games in Fort McMurray, AB (16U male & female) this July & August.  Team Manitoba is coming off its best summer ever with two gold medals at the 17U level, a silver at 16U male, a bronze at 16U female and a 4th place finish at 15U male.  The assistant coaches will be announced in the coming weeks.   Full biographies on each coach can be seen at...


Each spring, Basketball Manitoba coordinates provincial teams at the 17U, 16U and 15U age categories for both male and female athletes.  All ages are based on December 31 of the year the tryouts occur.

The teams will be selected from open tryouts May 22-24 and May 29-31, 2015 at the University of Winnipeg and any Manitoba resident who is in one defined age categories is eligible and welcome to tryout. Once the teams are chosen, they train and compete together through June and July and participate in their respective National Basketball Championships.

16U Male Head Coach - Stephen Tackie




Stephen Tackie has been involved with the Manitoba Provincial Team program both as a head and an assistant coach at a variety of levels since 1998. In 2005, he began working as an assistant with the Wesmen Men's basketball program and has been ever since. 16U Female Head Coach - Mitch Catacutan




Mitch Catacutan is currently a math and science teacher at Glenlawn Collegiate where he is working with the grade 9 boys and junior varsity girls basketball teams. After coaching varsity girls and boys basketball teams in Thunder Bay, ON, Mitch moved to Winnipeg to play on the Providence Men's Basketball team in 2005.  After 1 year as a player, he was named head coach of the men's program and coached for the next 3 years at Providence College....


15U Male Head Coach - Eric Sung




Eric Sung has been highly involved in basketball development in Manitoba since 2006.  Currently, he is on the coaching staff at Oak Park High School with the Varsity Boys team. Most recently he helped assistant coach the 15U Male Provincial Team to a national bronze medal in 2013.  In the summer of 2014, he took his first head coaching position with the Provincial Team program, bringing home a 4th place finish at the National Championships....


15U Female Head Coach - Alyssa Grant




Alyssa Grant attended Oak Park high school from 2006-2009 where she was named team MVP two years in a row. In her grade 12 year she was named to the All-Manitoba team and also received the Carl Ridd Award for excellence in school, community and sport involvement.
