TORONTO, August 1, 2014 - Slan Sports Management has announced that Chad Posthumus of Winnipeg has signed a one-year contract with Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo of the National Basketball League of Japan (NBL).

Posthumus, a 6’11” center, played the past two seasons at Morehead State University. In his senior year, he was the 4th leading rebounder in the NCAA, averaging 10.9 per game in just 25.7 minutes. He led the country in rebounds per 40 minutes at 17.1 as well as rebounding percentage at 25.2%.  Posthumus also averaged 9.6 points per game and was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Third Team, leading his team to the OVC Tournament Semi Finals. After graduating, he was selected as one of the top 64 seniors in the country, participating in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament and was invited to pre-draft workouts with the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls. Posthumus was eventually invited to the Chicago Bulls minicamp where he earned a spot on their Las Vegas Summer League roster.

A Winnipeg, Manitoba native, Posthumus played high school basketball at River East Collegiate. He then started his collegiate career at the University of British Columbia where he played one season in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. Posthumus then played one year at Howard College in Texas before transferring to Morehead State for his final two seasons of eligibility.

“I’ve been waiting a long time to start my professional career and can’t wait to be a part of the Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo Basketball Club in Japan,” said Posthumus. “My two years at Morehead State and this summer with the Chicago Bulls have really helped prepare me for the next level. I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”

Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo finished tied for third place in the NBL Eastern Conference last season with a record of 31-23 but failed to make the playoffs as they lost the tiebreaker to Link Tochigi Brex. Posthumus aims to help them improve on that record this coming season by adding size, toughness, and an interior presence.

“Our desire is a parallel improvement for both Levanga and Chad,” said Piti Hurtado, Head Coach of Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo. “We hope Chad comes in, makes the necessary adjustments to life and culture in Japan and continues to work hard.”
