Men's Basketball - WESMEN 79  Victoria 51

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen led from start to finish in a convincing 79-51 victory over the University of Victoria Vikes in game one of the Canada West quarter finals Friday evening in Victoria, British Columbia.

Jelane Pryce led the Wesmen with 19 points, including a pair of three pointers. Pryce led the Wesmen with nine rebounds. Steven Wesley added 17 points while Andrew Cunningham had 10 points and five assists.

Ryan Erikson led Victoria with a game high 20 points. Terrell Evans added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Wesmen head coach Mike Raimbault was pleased with his teams performance in the opening game.

" Tonight our effort and intensity were at the appropriate level for this time of the year. The most important thing now is if we can refocus and be prepared for another tough test tomorrow night".

Winnipeg opened up the contest on a 10-2 run and carried the play for the remainder of the frame. The visiting Wesmen led 18-5 after the opening 10 minutes. Victoria struggled from the field connecting on 2-of-13 shots. Steven Wesley scored seven points for Winnipeg.

After both teams scored 17 points in the second frame, Winnipeg went into the halftime break with a 35-22 lead.

The Wesmen continued to lead by double digits in the third quarter opening up a 58-35 lead after 30 minutes and continued to carry the play in the fourth quarter to make the final score 79-51.
