Now that the holiday season is upon us, the Bobcats basketball teams are hosting their annual "Holiday Hoops Classic", a one-day basketball event and fundraiser aimed at teaching some of the basics of basketball in a fun environment while helping a worthwhile local cause.

The Holiday Hoops Classic will be held December 15, from 9:30 am – 12:30 am in the Brandon University Healthy Living Centre. The event is aimed at teaching local youth the basics of basketball, while helping local youth in need as the holiday season approaches.

"The popularity of this event continues to grow each year. The support of our community is amazing, which is why it is such a privilege for us to hold this event each December," says coach Gil Cheung. "Our athletes know the importance of giving back to the community. We as a team get a lot of support, so when ever we have  the opportunity to help those in need it's something we get excited for. We look forward to the Holiday Hoops Classic all year."

There is no registration fee associated with the clinic, but those who take part are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy which will be donated to the Christmas Cheer Registry by the Bobcats. Cash and gift card donations are also accepted. All proceeds are donated to charity.

The primary focus of this session is to introduce the fundamentals of the game and to teach proper footwork, shooting mechanics, ball-handling, passing and spacing. The event promises to be fun as well as develop basketball skills in both an individual and team setting. Players will be introduced to basic agility and core training activities.

The clinic is open to all students in grades 3 - 12..

The annual clinic is put on by coach Cheung and members of the Bobcats basketball teams.
