Ken OpalkoJoe OgomsJerry IlchynaCongratulations to Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame Members Ken Opalko (MBHOF class of '98), Joe Ogoms (class of '03) and Jerry Illchyna (class of '94) for their recent induction into the Manitoba High School Sport Hall of Fame!  All 3 individuals joined the MHSAA's class of 2013 at a ceremony held in Winnipeg.  Ken Opalko is a graduate of Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and played at the University of Winnipeg from 1976 - 1981. At a time when there was no 3 point shot, Ken was the Canadian University scoring leader with a total of 3603 points. Joe Ogoms was also a graduate of Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and in 1983, Joe played his university basketball with the Manitoba Bisons.  In his rookie year, he won the Rookie of the Year Award of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. He was an All-Canadian in 1985 and 1986.  With a coaching career of over 30 years, Jerry Illchyna coached teams to 15 Provincial Championships. The freshman girls' team at Dakota Collegiate won 6 Provincial Championships, appearing in the provincials 8 times. His varsity girls' won 2 Provincial Championships and were Provincial Finalists 4 times.  Read the article in the Winnipeg Free Press on the induction...
