Bison men’s basketball team local high school recruits Justus Alleyn and Malik Irwin for upcoming 2013-14 season Fifth year Bisons men’s basketball head coach Kirby Schepp has annonced the commitment of guard Justus Alleyn and forward Malik Irwin to the Bison program for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

Alleyn, 17 (turning 18 on Oct. 18/13), is a 6’2”, 175 lbs. guard who finished his high school career at St. Paul’s Crusaders in 2012-13. The Montreal born player was named the number one ranked high school basketball player in the province by the Winnipeg Sun’s annual coaches poll in 2013. With the Crusaders, he averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists per game while leading St. Paul’s to number one ranking province in his senior year. Some of his accolades include 2012 Team MVP; 2012 All-Star WIT and Piper Classic; 2013 MVP in DMCI, WIT, Piper Classic, St. Vital, Winnipeg Tier 1 Playoffs; All-Star in MIT (Saskatoon) and Wesmen Classic. In addition, he was part of U17 Team Manitoba team that won silver in summer of 2012 where he averaged 13.2 ppg.


 


Schepp enthused, “We feel Justus is one of the best guards to come out Manitoba in many years. He has the total package of athletic ability, skill, work ethic and character. Justus has improved tremendously in the last two years and we are excited for him to become part of our program. We very happy to get this important commitment as we are building the foundation of our program by adding the best local athletes.”

Irwin, 17 (turning 18 on Aug. 24/13), is a 6’4”, 180 lbs. forward also completed his high school career at St. Paul’s Crusaders in 2012-13. The Toronto born player was named the number seven ranked high school basketball player in the province by the Winnipeg Sun’s annual coaches poll in 2013. With the Crusaders, he averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds per game while leading St. Paul’s to number one ranking province in his senior year. Some of his accolades include 2012 Most Improved Player with Crusaders; Leadership Award 2013; Tournament All-Star at 2012 MHSAA provincials, 2013 Piper Classic, WIT; MVP 2013 MIT (Saskatoon). In addition, he was part of U17 Team Manitoba team that won silver in summer of 2012 where he averaged 6.8 ppg.


 


Schepp commented, “We are very excited to add Malik to our program. He has tremendous potential as a student-athlete. We feel that Malik will eventually play multiple positions at both ends of the floor for us one day. Outside of just basketball, he is a very high character individual that will be a solid part of our foundation for years to come.”
